What the ground does
On the coast it is sand over Tamala limestone, with caprock a metre down that needs a ripper or breaker. Through the Chapman Valley and Northampton the red sandy loam and clay carry rocky rises. Inland at Mullewa, Morawa and Three Springs the yellow sandplain and heavy red loam are dusty and hard in summer and workable after rain.
Wind, heat and dust
Geraldton's afternoon sea breeze and the inland heat are hard on machines. Keep radiators and coolers clean, watch hydraulic temperatures, check air filters far more often than the manual suggests, and start early. Summer hydraulic oil grades help.
